Harvest 2024 has announced itself with a bang at Org de Rac, with the first grapes arriving in the cellar just after the turn of the new year. With several white grape cultivars already received, winemaker Lizelle Gerber is anticipating an excellent vintage across the board.
One reason for the spring in her step is the pristine condition of the grapes after a near perfect growing season and a cold, wet winter. This, combined with an intensive soil improvement and weed control programme over the past two years, have meant that canopies have never been healthier.
Furthermore important upgrades in the cellar are set to elevate wine quality in a big way, with a state-of-the-art Willmes grape press having just arrived from Germany. The gold-standard membrane technology of this pneumatic press allows for very gentle whole-bunch pressing and a higher recovery of premium quality juice. Another exciting innovation is reefer container cooling, which ensures that our grapes stay at an optimum cool temperature pre-fermentation and so delicate flavours and phenolic compounds are preserved.
Our wine club celebrates its first birthday in January 2024, and to mark the important milestone we are showering our members with special offers and events.
